The Durand – Arkansaw Board of Education has selected Dr. Ryan Nelson as the school district’s next superintendent.
Dr. Nelson has 13 years of experience as an educational administrator and is currently in his tenth year as the superintendent of the Augusta School District. Ryan’s career in education began as a seventh- and eighth-grade Reading/Language Arts and ninth-grade English teacher in the Independence School District. He later accepted a position to teach sixth-grade Reading/Language Arts and Social Studies in the Chippewa Falls Unified Area School District before beginning his administrative career as an elementary principal in the Augusta School District. During his years as a classroom educator, Ryan also coached a variety of sports at the middle and/or high school levels including football, basketball, and softball.
In his role as superintendent of Augusta Schools, Dr. Nelson successfully led initiatives to enhance and improve learning opportunities for students at all levels including expansion of the district’s Charter School, implementation of an Industry 4.0 robotics technical education program, and utilization of Professional Learning Communities and Instructional Coaching Frameworks. Ryan also guided several capital improvement projects as well as the construction of an early learning center and a performing arts center. Under his leadership, the Augusta School District was named a Wisconsin DPI Spotlight School for three consecutive years.
Dr. Nelson will begin his duties at the Durand - Arkansaw School District as the District Administrator on July 1, 2024.
